The Purpose of Home Garden Ornaments by Marion A. Gibson

Perhaps you've driven by homes with yards that are full of hanging baskets, fountains, garden gnomes, and other home garden ornaments, and you've chuckled at what you feel is a waste of money and a silly bit of garden décor. You may have even seen lawns that are completely overridden with such features and wondered if the homeowner lost his or her mind or if the person is simply trying to hide behind some sort of yard-art museum.

However, there are several purposes to home garden ornaments when used in the proper manner and not allowed to overrun the entire lawn. What is the purpose of garden ornaments, and what can decorating with garden décor do to improve your life?

Humans are creatures of comfort, and to create a comfortable space to live in, they will add all sorts of home décor to a house that makes it feel livable. The same is true of a lawn or garden in many cases. Those who realize the value of their lawns and how serene and comforting they can be to a wounded or exhausted soul will do everything in their power to make their yard or garden as comfortable as possible. For many, this means using home garden ornaments to create a sort of green house or even a small paradise as seen through the eyes of the homeowner.

While you may have balked at the idea in the past because you've seen the idea of home garden ornaments commercialized with silly little elements that are often overcrowded into a small yard or garden, you can truly benefit from adding a few choice pieces to your home. Take a look at your lawn or garden, and compare it to one with several small porcelain toads places strategically around the bushes and flowerbeds. Does your yard seem as inviting and invigorating as the neighbor's lawn now? Maybe you don't like toads, but the ideas are beginning to swirl around in your head regarding various home garden ornaments you could use to highlight your style.

For example, you may notice that the corner of your flowerbed seems a little empty, where you can't seem to get any flowers to grow because the clay is too thick or the ground is too rocky. Perhaps you could choose a piece of garden décor like a small fountain or a little statuette of children at play in that corner to fill out the hole and bring a bit of style to the area. Once you've added that, you may find several other pieces that fit in nicely and make you feel more "at home" in your own garden.

As you begin to work in small pieces of garden décor here and there, you'll begin to understand why patio furniture, hanging baskets, little decorative picket fences, and other home garden ornaments are of interest to people. You'll start to feel as though you can spend just as much time in your garden or perhaps more than you do inside your home, surrounded by your home décor. The purpose of home garden ornaments is to extend your living pleasure from the inside to the outside of your home and create a comfort zone and cushion around your home so you can enjoy every square inch of your personal property.
